Podcast listening continued its methodical march north in 2020, with particular growth in younger demos and weekly listenership.
This, according to “The Infinite Dial” — the annual tracking of consumer audio consumption from Edison Research and Triton Digital.
The number of people in the U.S. who listen to a podcast at least once per week has crossed 80 million, a jump of nearly 17% from last year. Those who listen weekly listen a lot, consuming an average of eight episodes each week, selecting from an average of five different podcast shows. Edison believes part of the increase is due to listening to increasingly popular daily news podcasts.
Another headline is a significant jump in listening among 12-34 year-olds.
