Triple A Radio is back in market #45 as 96.5 The Coast is relaunched in Norfolk/Hampton, Virginia.

Sinclair is flipping AC 850 AM WTAR and two associated translators operating at 96.5 FM in Norfolk and Hampton, respectively. The format will also simulcast on 106.1 HD-2 Poquoson, supporting full market coverage.

The patchwork of signals may be imperfect, but will almost certainly out-perform the .1 and .2 shares posted by previous AC and sports formats.

The Coast brand last aired in the market from 1991 to 2003.

Reportedly, Nick Chapell, PD and PM Drive announcer for Alternative WROX (96X), will also serve as The Coast’s Program Director – and morning drive host. Yes, you read that correctly.

The Coast is the second Top 50 market commercial station to flip formats to Triple A this year, joining Seattle’s KPNW.
