It’s great to have a deep bench. As evidence we present Mike Vasilikos, who steps up to Operations Manager at WXPN/Philadelphia.
He’ll handle the 10a – 2p shift in the wake of Helen Leicht’s retirement, and will continue to host the 8 O’Clock News, WXPN’s Monday night new music show.
Said Vasilikos. “I fell in love with radio as a kid and this is truly a dream realized. Working alongside my friend Helen Leicht and the incredible staff at XPN, all true music lovers, has been inspiring. I’m excited to continue discovering and sharing music with the XPN community and to support all the incredible artists, locally and nationally, that have a home at WXPN.”
WXPN Assistant General Manager for Programming Bruce Warren added, “Mike is an invaluable part of the core team here at WXPN, both on the mic and behind the scenes. His love of music, and the keen insight and creativity he brings to curation and the music discovery process, is exceptional.”
A 14-year XPN vet, Vasilikos came to the station from WTMD/Baltimore. At the time of his poaching from Towson, WXPN General Manager Roger LaMay jokingly burned his counterpart, telling WTMD’s then-GM Steven Yasko, “You know what your call letters stand for? We Train Music Directors!”
Quite well, apparently.
