KCRW/Santa Monica today announced that hosts Novena Carmel and Anthony Valadez will team to helm Morning Becomes Eclectic.
The two replace Jason Bentley, the show’s most recent permanent host, who left the station in August of 2019 to pursue other opportunities.
KCRW President Jennifer Ferro said in a statement:
“Music is part of the genetic code of KCRW. Our approach to this important role of MBE host was to really push the boundaries of what it means to be a DJ in today’s on-demand world. Novena and Anthony, together, make a powerful and joyful duo who will help KCRW be where the people are and share the magic of KCRW music. With these new hosts plus [Program Director] Anne Litt solidly at the helm of our strategy we are ready to define a new era in music.”
Carmel, the daughter of musician Sly Stone, joined the station on 2018, having launched her DJ career four years prior. She has performed in numerous musical groups, and also had her finger on the pulse of the LA music scene booking venues such as Temple Bar, Zanzibar, The Virgil and Townhouse & The Del Monte Speakeasy.
Valadez has been with KCRW since 2008, previously hosting programs at KCSN, KPFK, and KROQ. He also hosted and co-produced Crate Diggers on Fuse TV. Valadez has remix credits for releases from David Bowie, Local Natives, and others.
