Another slate of collectibles for the Black Friday edition of Record Store Day…
By Paul Marszalek
The celebration that saved music retail and is credited for the vinyl revival, Record Store Day, is full-steam ahead for 2022’s Black Friday version of the event.
Once again, the RSD crew has teamed with artists and labels to offer more than 150 limited run collectibles music fans of all genres.
Among the unique offerings is the historic The Legendary Typewriter Tapes, a 1964 collaboration between Janis Joplin and Jorma Kaukonen. Recorded at Kaukonen’s house, the recording was restored by Grammy-winning engineer Michael Graves. Only 3500 were pressed.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Beck’s Sea Change album, there is a new special edition 3″ (!) single of “It’s All in Your Mind,” made specially for the RSD3 Mini-Turntable. Leave it to RSD to introduce a whole new format!
Also marking an anniversary, The Cure drops a 30th Anniversary edition of Wish — a double picture disc remastered by Robert Smith and Miles Showell at Abbey Road.
Also worth a mention is the release of David Bowie’s The Next Day Extra, an EP featuring outtakes that were finished after the album came out, a Japanese bonus track, and remixes by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy.
A complete list of releases, as well as a list of participating stores can be found a RecordStoreDay.com.
